Combat operations of the 1st Czechoslovak Independent Brigade
Battle of Biela Cerkov (31.12.1943-02.01.1944)
Command: to support the offensive attack in framework of the 1st Ukrainian front during the Zhitomir-berdichevsk's operation, to defeat German defense at Fastov and in cooperation with Soviet 27th army to check Biela Cerkov.

Info: since 31.12. combats at the altitude of 208,4 (southwards of Biela Cerkev). At 04:00 on New year Czechoslovaks attacked alitude, which they captured at 06:30. Between 08:00 and 11:00 they beat off several enemy counter attacks. On 02.01. Czechoslovak artillery supported the Soviet attack and also the 1st tank company with submachine-gun units struck a battle from the northwest. The same day the brigade was sent to the reserve, so they did not participade in the final capture of Biela Cerkev on 04.01.
Czechoslovak casualties: 66 killed, 270 wounded, 75 missed
Enemy casualties: [uwc] Czechoslovak artillery destroyed 13 tanks, 2 self-propelled cannons and uknown number of soldiers. Tanks and infantry destroyed 2 tanks, 2 self-propelled cannons, 1 cannon battery, 15 vehicles, 10 machine-gun nests and killed at minimum 50 soldiers
