Combats of the 1st Czechoslovak independent fighter air regiment
|
Czechoslovak air units and Slovak national uprising (18.09.-25.10.1944)
Command: support rebellious troops from air.
21 airplanes of the 1st Czechoslovak independent fighter air regiment landed on provisionaly created airport
Zolná on 17.09. Directly next day 8 planes of the 1st wing [1] charged enemy airport in Piestany, where fully destroyed 6-10 modern and demolished another 10 planes. From that moment Czechoslovak air forces controled air-space above rebellious area. All time air regiment supported 2nd paradesant and rebellious units, bombing enemy land ground positions, skirmished with enemy aviation [2], supported infantry attacks, patroled and filled other combat tasks.
Nevertheless on land ground restorative German forces more and more froced out rebellious troops. When was claer that uprising will be defeated, rebellious command allowed air regiment return back to USSR. First group of 11 planes flown away on 25.10. to the airport Krosno (Poland) [3], second major group joined recessive infantry units to mountains. Before it were destroyed all damaged airplanes, replacement parts, radiostation and fuel.
1st Czechoslovak independent fighter air regiment finished own combat mission in Slovakia with excellent results (accomplished 566 flights). Beyond 16-20 destroyed and damaged planes in Piestany airport, Czechoslovak pilots shot down 9 enemy planes (2x Ju-88, 1x Fi-156, 1x Fw-190, 2x Fw-189, 3x Me-109 G), 3 probably (1x Ju-88, 1x Ju-87, 1x Me-109 G) and 6 damaged (1x Ju-88, 2x Fw-190, 1x Fw-189, 2x Me-109 G). Furthermore destroyed/damaged: 2/11 tanks, 1/2 armoured vehicles, 3/6 artillery batteries, 3/7 mortary batteries, 100/109 vehicles, 13/17 passenger vehicles, 1/1 motorcycle, 15/15 conveyances with ammunition, 3/3 locomotives, 0/2 armoured trains, 4/75 wagons, 2/5 machine-gun nests, 1/1 command posts, 2/3 ammunition dumps and 0/1 fuel storage.

[3] - for bad weather finaly 3 planes landed on airport Stryj, 7 planes for want of fuel emergency landed near airport Oradea Mare (Romania), 1 plane emergency landed in Slovakia couse of hits by enemy fire.
